The Transport Minister Leo Varadkar signed new regulations which for the first time give motor insurance companies access to the National Driver Vehicle File (NDVF). This forms part of the Minister’s latest efforts to reduce car insurance premiums, improve road safety and reward safe driving.
The NDVF will allow insurance companies to look up a person’s driving history and premiums will be weighted accordingly. Drivers will be penalised for the 18 most serious offences such as speeding, , drink driving, driving without insurance and dangerous driving.
