What is Black Friday?

This American tradition has set the shopping world a blaze, and is now arguably the biggest retail day of the year. Almost all retailers offer great deals and huge discounts.

When is Black Friday?

Black Friday takes place every year on the day after thanksgiving in the US, which is the fourth Thursday in November. This year, Black Friday will be on Friday 23rd November 2018. But don’t wait until Friday 23rd, most retailers are advertising their deals already!

Why should I shop on Black Friday?

Black Friday is a great opportunity for you to bag yourself a deal ahead of Christmas. Whether it’s present of the kids, a lovely gift for the wife or a treat for the husband, this is the time to buy. Everything is on sale and almost all retailers buy in, so you can get anything from toys, to perfume, to electronic goods, to flights at knock down prices.

In 2017, over 90% of retailers took part, and we expect no less in 2018. Our summary of who’s in for 2018 and quick links to their websites is below.

  • Amazon – the deals have already started for Amazon, offering discounts across all products and departments with the biggest savings noted in everything tech. For a list of the Amazon deals click here.
  • AO – this major electrical provider’s sale has already started and with some lines selling out already it is time to act. AO are offering big savings on washing machines, fridges and TVs. You can even sign up for Whatsapp alerts. For AO deals click here.
  • Argos – as usual Argos will be one of the main retailers offering a full range of discounts across their full product range. In 2017 they sold over 15,000 TVs alone. So for anything electrical or homeware make sure to give them a try. For a list of Argos deals click here.
  • Asos – the fashion retailer’s Black Friday sale is set to kick off on 23rd, and will offer discounts across their men and women’s clothing range. To keep an eye on Asos’s deals click here.
  • Boots – look no further for discounts on skincare, beauty and perfume products. The website is advertising discounts already, up to 50% on certain lines. click here.
  • BT – for great deals on broadband packages, TV subscriptions, and mobile offers try BT. click here to find out more.
  • Currys PC World – last year Currys was the go to for many for a great deal on electrical equipment such as TVs, washing machines, hoovers and kitchen appliances, and this year is likely to be no different. View their Black Tag event by click here.
  • Debenhams – this sale has already started, with discounts up to 70% across all your favourite brands. For some great deals on homeware, menswear, womenswear and kidswear click here.
  • Easca – for a great deal on a new mattress and bedding try easca, their sale is now on offering up to €120 discounts. Click here.
  • Euronics – for everything electrical, keep an eye on Euronics with their Black Friday sale set to start on Friday 23rd. click here.
  • Harvey Norman – for great deals on home products, appliances, sofas, beds and furniture try Harvey Norman. Their sale starts Friday and you can subscribe for email updates, click here.

  • Littlewoods – this Black Friday sale has already started, they are offering discounts up to 50% across all departments such as electrical, tech and homeware. For a list of deals click here.
  • Ryanair – their sale has already started and Ryanair are offering great discounts on return flights booked now. Today they offered £30 off, click here.
  • Toyota - Grandons in Cork are just one example of a Black Friday event in the car industry. Up to €2000 off used cars at Grandons.

So what’s hot in 2018?

As always, tech is going to be the hottest, with some great deals on smartphones, smart TVs, tablets, consoles, laptops, smart speakers and smart watches. You can also expect to see some great deals on kitchen appliances such as coffee machines, washing machines and microwaves. You can also expect to see some good discounts on clothing brands, shoes, fashion accessories and perfumes. If you are interested in travel or getting a relaxing break, keep an eye out for cheap flights and hotel deals.

How to get the best deals?

The best advice is to make a list and don’t leave it to late. Many of the retailers are already advertising their offers, and all will be from Tuesday 20th November.
